Drone Drop Edan Raymond | Lead UX Designer

Project Overview

We are launching an innovative delivery app “DroneDrop” which enhances the home delivery experience by allowing users to modify the exact drop-off location and time of their delivery prior to the order being sent out to the final destination. Our app leverages the efficiency and convenience of drone delivery technology, coupled with the strong user experience of our app. We believe empowering users to set the logistical details of their delivery will enable delivery schedules to work around people’s schedules, not the other way around.

The Problem

Hybrid workers and busy parents living in the suburbs need a simple way to schedule and update their order’s delivery location/time because sending packages to places you may not be at the time of delivery can be frustrating. Especially when you need the item ASAP.

The Solution

Create an app for a drone delivery service that will let users place and manage a delivery’s timing and destination, which will affect users who have busy or variable schedules by giving them the freedom to receive packages on their schedule. We will measure effectiveness by tracking reorder rates.

Project Outcome

The research conducted during this project will help DroneDrop create a mobile application user experience that is intuitive, helpful, appealing, and accessible. DroneDrop is now at the point where the design can be handed off to the engineering team. Once the design is live, user engagement metrics will be collected to validate assumptions made during the design process.

Lessons Learned

In this project, I learned the importance of incorporating user-centered design and the design thinking process to develop prototypes that address the needs of the consumer. By going through each step of the design thinking process I was able to get a holistic view of the steps needed to succeed as a UX designer.
